Artist Statement

My work is both visceral and dreamlike, with no beginning or end:  a portrait of mental spaces and states.  It is the sediments of an experience that I like to explore and the emotional dialogue between the object represented and its surroundings. The use of various materials and different pictorial styles contribute to the idea of recalling experiences in a semi-abstract, semi-realistic visual exploration. Materials pieced together, broken, layered, drawn and painted over.  The fragmented imagery, the layers of paint, the interplay between color, texture and form — all create a poetic symmetry of emotion. Memories recalled, diluted, exaggerated and incomplete, forever shifting and changing with time, resulting in a different reality. It is an emotional response to the physical world, and with this imperfect, spontaneous and intuitive process, a painting emerges.
